As you are all aware league season is revving up for the Fall and our courts can be quite busy in the mornings from 8:00-9:30am. Our courts, however, are readily open for play from 10:00am on. We would like to encourage you to consider rearranging some of your games to avoid the heavy primetime play and take advantage of the non primetime hours.  
 

  • Men's Singles
    Every Tuesday at 5:30pm we have a group of guys playing men's singles.  If you would like to be included, please send request to Eric Nelson at ericnelson1232@gmail.com and he will add you to the weekly Evites.  Note this is not a clinic—just people playing casual singles.   Attendees are typically 3.5-4.0.
     

  • 10/19 THROUGH 10/21 - Our 2nd Annual San Dieguito Cup!
    Be sure and sign up to play in the Second Annual San Dieguito Cup to be held from October 19th -21st.
     
    This is a team tennis tournament which takes place over a weekend.  Last year’s inaugural event was won by Team France, captained by Maria Avila. 
     

  • Each team consists of 4 men and 4 women. 

  • Team captains (3 men and 3 women) choose a country to represent and select their players in a draft.

  • Each round consists of a men’s doubles match, a women’s doubles match and a mixed doubles match, playing 8 game pro sets.

  • The tournament begins with a potluck team dinner on Friday, October 19th.  In keeping with their country, each team decorates its table, brings representative food/drink and dresses accordingly.   

  • After round robin play, the top 4 ranked teams advance to the Semi-Finals on Sunday, with prizes given for 1st through 3rd places.

  • A picture of the winning team is displayed in the club house for the next year and the names of the winning team members will be displayed on the perpetual trophy.

  •  The $35 entry fee includes lunch on Saturday and Sunday, snacks, beer, water and balls. 
     
    Sign-ups are limited to the first 24 men and 24 women who sign up; however, additional teams could be added if there are enough interested players to fill out more teams.      
     
    Volunteers and subs also are needed.

    Our Board of Director's meeting will be held on Tuesday, 10/02/18, at 6:00pm in the clubhouse. Please note the date change. All are welcome to attend.

    Gitta & Magnus will be hosting the Oktoberfest on, Sunday, October 14th. 
    Tennis will begin at 2:00pm and continue with appetizers and our Oktober -festivitiesat 4:30pm.

    We invite everybody to come and join us for this special celebration 
    Sausages and all the trimmings will be provided. 
    Please bring a dish to share and BYOB.

2018 San Dieguito Cup October 19th-21st

2018 San Dieguito Cup Sign-ups begin Sept 22nd at 8:30 am.

Be sure and sign up to play in the Second Annual San Dieguito Cup to be held from October 19th -21st. A sign up sheet is posted at the club!

The Board would like to welcome and congratulate our new Director of Tennis, Juan Garcia.  Juan joins our club with many outstanding accomplishments and achievements throughout his tennis career.  We look forward to Juan meeting all the members and taking on the leadership and responsibilities of our club while holding true to the values and traditions that make SDTC an amazing place to be.

We would also like to congratulate Tole for his acceptance of his new title as Head Tennis Professional.  Tole has been an excellent Professional at SDTC for many years and we value his expertise, commitment and the many friendships he has in our family.  Thank you for your dedication to our club! 

The Board would like to thank the Hiring Committee for their tireless efforts and countless hours devoted to the successful process of continuing the greatness of San Dieguito Tennis Club.

    It's time again to send in your contributions to our newsletter! All submissions must be sent in digital format to sandieguitotennisclub@gmail.com. Photos sent in high resolution are preferred. If you need help, please visit the pro shop for assistance. Submissions received after the due date or sent to a different email address may not be included. Let's celebrate the wonderful athletic community we call SDTC!

    Men's Beer Night continues to be a great evening of doubles tennis, friendship and fun beginning at 6:00pm. After tennis the guys meet up in the clubhouse for food, an $8.00 fee, and are encouraged to bring their favorite craft beer for themselves and one to share. A sign up is posted at the club!
     

  • 09/21/18 Texas Holdem'
    Hosted by Phil Lambert 
    Poker night, Friday, September 21st, Sandwiches and chips at 6:30pm, poker at 7:00pm. BYOB!
    All members/guests are invited. This will be an elimination tournament style format, with a buy in and add-on. 

    Phil would be available to have a tutorial for anyone that would like a refresher on Texas Holdem' so feel free to ask! Please email Phil at plambertins@gmail.com for details and to reserve a spot!

  • Pickleball Roster
    We know many of you have picked up the game of pickleball but do you know who else may be playing that is a member of our club?! Please email the Pro Shop at sandieguitotennisclub@gmail.com and let us know if you would like to be placed on our "Pickler's Roster"! Be sure to include your level of play, if you know, and the best way to contact you. This list will be available in our members only section; password protected, beginning mid September. Hopefully you can begin to get together to play more often. Happy pickling!
     
  • Rules to be mentioned.
    Under our Rules Section V. a-3. When all courts are in use, put your name on the waiting section of the board. Check times as listed opposite each court number. When the time on a court has expired, and your party is next on the waiting list, replace your names on that court with the names of your party and enter your starting time. Please be sure to take the first court that comes available by the time reported to ensure fairness all around.

    Under our Rules Section V. a-7. Courts 1 and 2 are limited to six balls per court. If you would like to practice, please use the other courts. 

    Thank you in advance for your attention and adherence to the rules.

    We would like to announce a change to our current Board of Directors.  Vinh Tran has decided to step down effective August 10th. We would like to thank Vinh for his time and efforts while serving on the SDTC Board. 

    Per the club bylaws, there will be a temporary replacement nominated by the SDTC Board of Directors, to serve, until the next elected Board takes office in March 2019.  We are very fortunate to have one or our previous Board of Director members, Joanne Marks, volunteer to work with us. 

    Joanne, thank you very much for stepping up to assist the club at this very important transitional time.

  • USTA JR. HARDCOURT TOURNAMENT 07/30/18-08/03/18
    Max Bauer will be organizing and hosting with the aide of Dave Rapp the Annual USTA JR. Hardcourt Tournament the week of July 30th through August 3rd. 

    They will be using seven courts Monday - Thursday from 10:00am to  6:00pm and seven courts on Friday (the finals), August 3rd. from 10:00am to 3:00pm.

    Spectators are welcome to come out and watch these up and coming juniors in action. Please plan your tennis  accordingly this week.
     
  • 08/05/18 Sunday Mixer and Social
    Hosted by Mitzi and Bill Brick, Kelley and Kendal Hess.  Come and join us for a BBQ at the club.  The hosts are providing hamburgers, kielbasas, and Mojitos. 

    SDTC will also be using this opportunity to wish Dave Rapp well on his retirement. (This will be Dave's last day with us!)

    Tennis and Pickleball will begin at 3:00pm.  Appetizers are at 4:30pm followed by dinner.  We will need appetizers, salads, side dishes and desserts.
