Class descriptions:
Red Ball:
This program introduces the foundational skills of tennis with an oversize low-compression ball. Players will build tennis specific skills (agility, balance, coordination and speed) needed for long-term athletic development. At the end of the red ball program, players will have the beginning foundational skills necessary to serve, rally, and keep score.
Orange Ball:
This is the follow up program to Red Ball. Players will learn to maintain a rally when receiving more challenging shots, serve with improved placement, approach the net, and place volleys.
Green Ball:
More advanced and improved serve, rally, score, and play at net in singles and doubles on a regulation sized court with a low-compression transition ball. Technique, footwork, appropriate grip and tactics are one of the main challenges in match play and with that being improved, the player is more likely to advance to the next level.
Beginner/Intermediate:
Players participate in drills and games that will provide a great workout while inspiring them to learn and love our favorite game. This class teaches advanced motor skills, coordination, tennis strokes, court awareness, and incorporates fun games. It also introduces them to point play, scoring, and basic strategy.
Competitive:
This program is designed for dedicated tournament players. Classes address all areas from fitness, conditioning and mental toughness to point play, live ball drilling, play patterns, match play and technique adjustments. Participants learn to incorporate power and different spins into their shot making. Shot patterns, proper footwork, offensive and defensive strategy will improve through drilling as well as supervised match play. Participants must understand rules and etiquette for match play, as this is a large aspect of our program.
Some rules:
Make-ups and refunds?
There are no refunds or class credits. However, we have a make-up policy that allows students to make up missed classes Monday through Friday during the same month (has to be scheduled in advance); Make-up classes can NOT be transferred to the following month. In case of heavy rains, additional make up classes will be added on weekends. Please inform Michelle when you are coming for a make-up.
What to bring?
Sports clothing and tennis shoes are required for all the students. Bring your own tennis racket (demos may be provided if needed) or buy at our local tennis store, Seaside Rackets, with our recommendations.
Can my child attend on a non-registered day? Students MUST attend on their registered day(s) only. Requesting to makeup a class on a non-registered day may be allowed but must be approved by Michelle first and only if space is available.
Club Usage:
You are not allowed to use the facility besides junior and adult classes with Michelle Okhremchuk, unless you are a member of SDTC.
Cancellations of classes: (Rain, bad weather conditions, fires, holidays etc.)
If it is questionable as to whether or not a class will be canceled, it is the responsibility of the student and/or parent to find out if a class has been canceled by calling or texting Michelle at 858-610-6153.
Parents on Court:
During each class, there is plenty of seating for parents outside near the tennis court, as long as there are no distractions to the students. Please help us keep the kids focused!
Keep your kids close to you when they are outside the courts. Cars pass quite near the junior courts.
Pick up your trash when you leave.
Leaving your dogs at home. No dogs are allowed on club property.
Turning off your headlights when parked. When waiting to pick up your kids during twilight and dark hours, switch your lights off. It is difficult to play tennis on Court 7 when headlights are beaming right into the court.
Junior Team Tennis:
The Fall Season will begin in late September and ends early in December depending how many teams are in a season. Most of our students are members of the USTA junior team tennis program that allows them to compete against other clubs. This is a great way to feel the atmosphere of competition and learn how to be a part of a team. We play our team matches on Sundays. All the clubs that we compete against are in San Diego. Home matches are always at San Dieguito Tennis Club. The format is 2 singles matches and 2 doubles matches. If the team does well during the season, then we advance to playoffs and Sectional Championships.
Fees and Requirements:
Students have to be signed up and attend a clinic at least once a week for JTT participation.
Level of play must be approved by the coach.
Flat fee of $100 per player for the entire season for team participation.
Team shirt $25.
USTA player fee $25 per season. USTA membership for junior team tennis only is free.

This is an objective evaluation system for juniors who want to test their skills and start competing. A basic skill drill used to access skill levels to determine a rating. With a rating, players can compete in local SSV events.
